Jets Interest In Unga

Thursday's supplemental draft has some talent, and former BYU running back Harvey Unga leads the way. Will Unga be joining an already crowded Jets' backfield? has learned that the Jets have a strong interest in running back Harvey Unga, the former BYU running back who is available in Thursday's supplemental draft.

A source close to Unga revealed that the Jets were one of "20 teams who attended his workout last week" and that the team is highly interested in the player. Unga, described as a "real banger" by the source, said that he thinks that BYU's all-time leading rusher would be a good fit with the Jets. Unga withdrew from school in April after allegedly violating the school's honor code.

The source said that Unga is hearing that he might go as high as the third round in Thursday's supplemental draft and that he wouldn't be surprised if it was the Jets who took the player. Unga, who would have been entering his senior season at the Provo school had he not left the program, was named first-team All-Mountain West Conference this past year.

Currently, the Jets have slated second-year running back Shonn Greene as the incumbent starter after releasing Thomas Jones this off-season. In addition, the team signed former All-Pro running back LaDainian Tomlinson this spring and drafted Joe McKnight in the fourth round of April's NFL Draft. Fan favorite Danny Woodhead, who was cut from the team last August before being re-signed and seeing spot duty in the backfield, is also in the mix as a running back and on special teams.
