Hester earns another honor

Devin Hester came into Sunday's contest with a bad ankle and strep throat. Yet he still returned a punt for touchdown. For his efforts, he has been named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

Chicago Bears WR Devin Hester was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week after recording 122 punt return yards on three returns (40.7 ypr) – including an 82-yard punt return touchdown – in Week 10 versus Detroit.

Hester's touchdown was the 17th kick return score of his career (12 punt, five kickoff) which extended his NFL record. The touchdown was the 18th return touchdown (12 punt, five kickoff, one missed field goal) of his career, second most in NFL history surpassing Hall of Famer Rod Woodson (17), trailing Hall of Famer Deion Sanders (19). Hester has reached the mark in 85 career games played while Woodson played in 238 and Sanders 188.

It was the 12th Special Teams Player of the Week award for the University of Miami (FL) product and his third of the season (Week 4 versus Carolina and Week 6 versus Minnesota). Hester joins John Carney (13), Jerry Rice (13) and Adam Vinatieri (13) as the only non-QBs to win 12 Player of the Week Awards in their career.

Hester was also named NFC Special Teams Player of the Month in October.

It was the fifth NFC Player of the Week honor for the Bears this season after LB Brian Urlacher won NFC Defensive Player of the Week in Week 1 versus Atlanta and LB Lance Briggs won NFC Defensive Player of the Week in Week 7 at Tampa Bay. RB Matt Forté was also named FedEx Ground player of the Week in Week 4 versus Carolina.
