Cards-Bears All About Pressure Up Front

Jay Cutler Profile

Since both the Cardinals and Bears have had trouble running the football all season long, coupled with the fact that they feature turnover-prone passers, Sunday's game at Soldier Field may come down to which team can protect its quarterback.

For the Bears, Jay Cutler hasn't put together a passer rating better than 79.6 in his last three contests and has thrown six interceptions during that stretch, mostly because he hasn't had enough time to go through his progressions properly. Even a terrible Browns defense sacked him four times a week ago at Soldier Field, pushing his season sack total to 15 after only going down 11 times all last year with the Broncos. Offensive coordinator Ron Turner talked about scaling back the playbook after the Cleveland win, but he tossed water on that idea Wednesday.

As for the Cardinals, few signal callers in the NFL have taken more hits over the years than Kurt Warner, who features a quick release and doesn't mind holding on to the ball hoping one of his receivers breaks open at the last instant. He's coming off a forgettable performance in Week 8 at home against Carolina, firing five interceptions and losing a fumble for a passer rating of 47.8 – about half his career mark of 92.9. If the Bears can't get to Warner and force a few mistakes, he's got more than enough weapons to make them pay down the field.

Arizona is a perfect 3-0 on the road this year, while Chicago is a perfect 3-0 at home, so something has got to give in Week 9.
