Matt Forte Profile

Bears tailback Matt Forte was nominated Tuesday for the FedEx Ground Player of the Week award, his first such nomination of the season.

After a slow start in 2009 that had fans and critics alike wondering what was wrong with the Chicago running game, Forte busted out in a big way Sunday against the Lions with 12 attempts for 121 yards and a TD. The former Tulane Green Wave star ripped off a career-long 61-yard run on the second play from scrimmage in the first quarter, and then he scored from 37 yards out to put Detroit out of reach in the fourth quarter. After averaging only 2.2, 2.2 and 3.1 yards per carry the first three games, Forte ran at a 10.1-yard clip in Week 4 and also recorded two receptions for 19 more yards.

Forte is up against Miami's Robbie Brown, who rushed 20 times for 115 yards and two touchdowns in a win over Buffalo, and Pittsburgh's Rashard Mendenhall, who totaled 165 yards and a pair of scores on 29 carries in a win over San Diego.

Voting ends at 11:00 a.m. Central on Friday. CLICK HERE to vote.
