DT Anthony Adams: Nose Tackle a Surprise Guest at Podium by John M. Crist of BearReport.com, September 24, 2009 at 2:52pm ET
Anthony Adams Profile
Thursday is when most of the defensive players have their chance to speak to reporters at Halas Hall, with team capains Lance Briggs and Adewale Ogunleye usually being brought up to the podium in the press room to answer questions.
But this week, instead of Ogunleye following Briggs, it was soft-spoken nose tackle Anthony Adams getting his shot to address the Chicago media and offer his take on Sunday's Week 3 matchup with the Seahawks at Qwest Field.
"Usually, they discriminate against fat guys," he joked, getting a round of laughs from everyone.
While Adams usually displays a calm demeanor in the locker room and is always willing to chat with print, radio and TV people when asked, he turns into a wild man on game day and has a reputation for having Energizer bunny-like energy in the huddle.
"I was the only child," Adams said when trying his best to explain his on-the-field transformation. "I don't have any brother and sisters, so I was really hyper. I'm like a big kid out there. I really don't know what I'm going to do, what I'm going to say. I'm just so hyper. I'm just so happy to be out there with the guys."
The 6-0, 297-pound fire hydrant is so busy having a good time on the gridiron, quite often Adams doesn't even remember some of the things he does – let alone says – in the heat of the moment.
"I was miked up a couple times," he said, "and it was an experience. I didn't even know what I doing. I didn't know what I was saying, but I have a lot of fun. I think that's the way to play this game. I think a lot of guys feed off it."
Now the unquestioned starter alongside Tommie Harris with Dusty Dvoracek again on injured reserve, Adams has two solo tackles and two assists in two games.
