Patrick Mannelly Profile

The Monsters of the Midway sent out a press release Tuesday naming their five team captains for the 2009 season, going with their annual blend of two offensive players, two defensive players and one special-teams representative.

On the offensive side of the ball, center Olin Kreutz will be joined by new quarterback Jay Cutler. Cutler replaces fellow signal caller Kyle Orton, who was a team captain in 2008 but now wears a Denver Broncos uniform.

Defensively, linebacker Brian Urlacher will walk out to midfield for the coin flip with end Adewale Ogunleye. Ogunleye fills the shoes left by safety Mike Brown, now suiting up for the Kansas City Chiefs, although Ogunleye also took over the captain duties in 2007 after Brown tore a knee ligament in Week 1 and was shelved on injured reserve.

Commanding the special teams will be long-time long snapper Patrick Mannelly, who, along with Kreutz, is the longest tenured Bear on the roster having first put an orange C on his helmet in 1998.

According to the team's media relations department, Chicago's five captains have a combined 47 years of NFL experience and 14 Pro Bowl selections between them.
