PRO CAREER: Versatile running back and special teams player has 284 rushes for 1,132 yards (4.0 avg.) and 8 TDs to go along with 70 receptions for 609 yards (8.7 yards per catch) in his first 6 seasons in Chicago… Excels on punt and kickoff coverage, as his 84 career special teams tackles are the most by a Bears player since the stat started being tracked in 1995… Established Bears individual single-season record with 28 special teams tackles in 2004 (equaled by Brendon Ayanbadejo in 2005 and 2006 and Cameron Worrell in 2006)… Has played in 62 consecutive contests dating back to 2004, 3rd longest streak among Bear offensive players… His 5.1 yards per carry average in 2005 (391 yards on 76 rushes) was the 4th highest in the NFL among running backs with at least 75 carries… Scored rushing TD in postseason debut in 2005 vs. CAR (1/15)… Has 13 career regular season kick returns for 192 yards and 2 career postseason kick returns for 27 yards.
HOW ACQUIRED: Entered NFL as a sixth-round selection (199th overall) by Chicago in the 2002 NFL Draft.
PERSONAL NOTES: Two-time all-state, all-area and Team MVP at Sante Fe (Fla.) H.S. while rushing for 4,949 yards during his prep career to earn All-America honors from ESPN and Blue Chip Illustrated… Ran for 1,526 yards and 17 TDs on 185 carries to earn Class 4A Player-of-the-Year honors as a senior… Lettered 4 times in track and 2 times in weightlifting and basketball… Brother Michael was an All-American LB at Florida and currently plays for the Jacksonville Jaguars… Cousin, Freddie Solomon, played for South Carolina State and the Philadelphia Eagles… In May 2004, kicked off a one-year fundraising campaign to support the establishment of the Adrian Peterson Foundation, commencing in 2005, with "A.P.'s Day Out in the Boro" -- featuring a free youth football camp and a celebrity charity basketball game held on the campus of his alma mater in Statesboro, GA.
