Became starter in week three. Led the Bear to their first Central Division title since 1991. Had a career high in virtually every quarterbacking statistic including touchdowns with 13 and passing yards with 2299. Spent off-season rehabilitating torn left Achilles tendon injury suffered during 2000 season. Exploded for career year in 1999, throwing for 1,242 yards and seven touchdowns in only five games. Led Chicago with an 83.5 quarterback rating and setting a Bears record by completing 63.2 percent of his passes. Active for final four games of 1998. Signed with Chicago (12/2/98) when Erik Kramer was placed on IR. Spent 1998 training camp with Detroit. Has served as a back-up quarterback in Pittsburgh (1994-96), Atlanta (1997) and Jacksonville (1997). Has a 13-5 career record as a Bears starter.
College
Set school record at Michigan State with 467 career completions and 62.9 completion rate. Ended collegiate career ranked third in Spartan history with 5,037 passing yards and 746 pass attempts. Completed 215 of 336 passes as senior for 2,269 yards with nine touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Became starter in fourth game of sophomore season and finished career in that role. Named Academic all-Big Ten as freshman in 1990. |
