| Biography: |
| Five-time Pro Bowler has led Chicago in tackles in five of his six seasons, becoming the first Bears player to lead the team in tackles for four straight years since Hall of Fame LB Mike Singletary did so for five years (1988-92). Has tallied over 100 tackles in each campaign and was the first Chicago defender to lead the team in tackles in his initial four seasons in the NFL. One of just five players in team history to receive Pro Bowl selections in each of their first four NFL seasons (Rick Casares, Mike Ditka, Dick Butkus and Gale Sayers). His 785 career tackles are the most ever for a Bears player in his first vie NFL seasons. Ranks 2nd behind Mike Brown on the franchise's career fumble return yardage list with 158 yards, including a 90-yard TD in 2001, on five career recoveries. Career awards include: NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year (2000), four-time NFC Defensive Player of the Week (10/7/01, 9/15/02, 9/19/04, 10/31/04), NFC Special Teams Player of the Week (12/23/01) and NFC Defensive Rookie of the Month (Oct. 2000), and NFL Defensive Player of the Year (2005). Posted career-high 214 tackles in 2002, the most ever by a Bear since tackle totals began being recorded in 1971. Registered first two TDs of his career and was involved in a career-high six turnovers in 2001 while serving as the focal point of a defense that allowed an NFL-low 203 points. Became second Bears rookie ever to lead team in tackles (Doug Plank, 1975) while being recognized by his teammates as the rookie recipient of the Brian Piccolo Award. |
