Biography:
Arguably one of the most accurate punters in the NFL, ranks as the league leader in punts inside-the-20 since entering the NFL in 1997 (242) and since joining the Bears in 2001 (119). Moved into second place in Chicago history with a 42.3-yard gross punt average after posting a Bears career-high 42.9-yard gross average in 2004. Surpassed the 30,000 punt yards plateau for his career and eclipsed 15,000-yard mark as a Bear in 2004 as he climbed to 3rd in Bears annals in total punt yardage. Ranks 3rd in NFL since 2001 in net punt average (36.9) and has aided the Bears punt coverage unit to tie for 3rd in league allowing just 7.4 yards per return during that span. Aided punt coverage unit to rank 8th in the NFL in 2004 at 6.7 yards per return, the fifth time in six years of allowing less than eight yards per punt return for Chicago. Led league with career-low two touchbacks in 2002 and set team records for net punt average in 2001, 2002 and 2004. Began Bears career in 2001 with a team record and career-high 36 punts in-the-20 to rank in the top two in the NFL for the fourth time in his career. 41.4 percent of his punts were downed in-the-20 in 2001 (36-of-87). Has successfully executed three special teams fakes during his Bears career, including 2 TD passes. Chicago's holder for all FG and PAT attempts, having done so throughout his career. Has never missed a game in his NFL career, including his first four years with the N.Y. Giants. Ranked among the leaders in punts inside the opponents' 20-yard line in first four NFL seasons (1997, 1st in NFL; 1998, 2nd in NFL; 1999, 1st in NFC; 2000, 2nd in NFC). Set Giants record and an NFL rookie record with 111 punts during the regular season in 1997.
