COLLEGE: Three-year career as a defensive tackle at Florida (2000-02) was marked by second-team All-SEC selection and 2 academic All-America awards. Two-time Academic All-District honoree. Left school after his junior season having recorded 120 tackles with 3.5 sacks and 20 TFLs as a Gator. Started 11 games as a junior, 9 at RDT and 2 at LDT, recording 57 tackles, including 1 sack and 7 TFLs, 1 fumble recovery and 1 blocked kick. Posted career-high 13 tackles, with 3 TFLs, vs. Ohio. Received Bob Bryan Student-Athlete-of-the-Year Award. Earned second-team All-SEC honors as a sophomore while starting 9 games at nose guard, recording 49 tackles, including 2.5 sacks and 11 TFLs, and 5 PDs. Top backup at DT as a true freshman played in 8 regular season games, plus the Sugar Bowl, recording 14 tackles with 2 TFLs, 1 forced fumble and 1 fumble recovery. Majored in industrial and systems engineering, earning school and district academic honors.
PERSONAL: One of Florida's top D-linemen as a prep from Gainesville (Fla.) H.S., earning All- America honors from USA Today, SuperPrep and National Bluechips. Named first-team all-state (5A) as a junior and senior, posting 120 tackles with 9 sacks his last year. Ranked among the nation's top-20 D-linemen by Prep Football Report. Starting center for the basketball team that captured the 1999 state title. High school valedictorian and member of National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society. Has served the Chicago community by handing out turkeys with the rest of the Bears defensive linemen at a pre-Christmas turkey giveaway for Chicagoland families in need.
