| 2003 SEASON: Started the final 3 games of the season for Chicago, becoming the first Bears rookie QB to win his first NFL start in 22 seasons and the franchise's only player to do so in his first 2 career starts dating back to 1952 & Led Chicago QBs in passing yards per attempt (6.07), INTs per attempt ratio (1.4%), passer efficiency rating (74.8) and tied for the team lead in TDs per attempt ratio (2.8%) & Did Not Play as the backup QB in Games 6-8, 12-13 and inactive as third QB in Games 1-5, 9-11 & Made NFL debut as starting QB vs. MIN (12/14), throwing for 157 yards on 13-of-30 passing and leading Chicago to a FG on his first drive behind center; first completion was an 11-yarder to TE-Desmond Clark & Passed for season-high 249 yards on 19-of-32 passing vs. WASH (12/21) with 2 TDs and 1 INT, including a season-long 59-yard completion to WR-Marty Booker for his first career TD pass; completed passes to 9 different receivers, 6 different on first 6 completions & Completed 6-of-10 passes for 31 yards in start at KC (12/28) before leaving in 2nd qtr. due to finger injury. GAMES PLAYED-STARTED: 3-3
CAREER TRANSACTIONS: Entered NFL as a first-round selection (22nd overall) by Chicago in the 2003 NFL Draft & Signed contract on (7/25/03). SIGNED through 2007.
COLLEGE: Established his place in the pantheon of Florida QBs by finishing his career (1999-2002) among the all-time passing leaders at UF and the Southeastern Conference while leading the Gators to 3 bowls games and a 23-9 overall record in his 3 years as a starter & The 2001 Heisman trophy runner-up and Associated Press National Player-of-the-Year concluded his career with 9,164 passing yards (3rd at UF, 5th in SEC), 677 completions (3rd at UF), 1,110 attempts (4th at UF), 77 TD passes (2nd at UF, 3rd in SEC) and the lowest career INT percentage in Gator history (3.24) & Just the fifth sophomore in NCAA history to finish in the top-2 in Heisman voting & Also ranks 2nd with a 61.0 career completion percentage & Led the SEC in passing as a sophomore and junior while tossing an NCAA-record 55 TD passes as a freshman and sophomore & Started 32-of-37 games played at UF and throwing for 300 yards in a school-record 17 of those contests & An All-SEC second-team pick as a junior after starting all 13 games and setting school records with 287 completions and 503 attempts & Finished career with 21-of-41 passing for 323 yards and 2 TDs vs. Michigan in the Outback Bowl & In addition to his Heisman standing as a sophomore, earned recognition as a finalist for the Walter Camp National Player-of-the-Year Award, the Maxwell College Player-of-the-Year Award and the Davey O'Brien National QB-of-the-Year Award & Did earn first-team All-SEC honors and the SEC Offensive Player-of-the-Year award while throwing for a Gator-record 3,896 yards (2nd in SEC) and career-high 34 TDs (6th in SEC) while starting 11-of-12 games & Also led the NCAA in pass-efficiency rating (170.8), passing yards per game (354.2), yards per pass attempt (9.86) and yards per play (9.10) & Threw for over 300-plus yards in 10-of-11 games, the most 300-plus games in a season in UF history, and at least 3 TD passes in 7-of-11 regular-season games & As a redshirt freshman, became first freshman QB in UF history to be named first-team All-SEC while starting 8-of-12 games played, including the Nokia Sugar Bowl & First freshman ever to be named MVP of the SEC Championship Game following a regular season in wh |
