With the 9th pick in Round 5, the Chicago Bears selected Nebraska cornerback Zack Bowman. According to Scout.com, Bowman is the No. 27 player available at his position. Here is a scouting report on Bowman with all the highlights you need to know about the newest Midway Monster.
The numbers: 6-1, 197 pounds, 4.39 seconds in the 40-yard dash, 18 bench-press reps at 225 pounds, 30.5-inch vertical jump.
The skinny: Bowman is flooded with athletic ability and ran an impressive 4.39 seconds in the 40-yard dash at the combine, but he's been riddled with injuries to both knees and has major health concerns coming into the league. He could be the ultimate boom-or-bust player, either finally staying on the field and exceeding expectations or never fully recovering from the hurts he suffered in college.
The analysis: If you strictly look at the numbers, Bowman fits this defense very well because the Cover 2 is built for bigger and more physical corners. Ricky Manning Jr. could possibly be on his way out, as Bowman would be a less expensive option behind current reserves Trumaine McBride and Corey Graham.
