"Whenever we get to a point where we don't think that Jim can make the throws, then he won't be on the field," head coach Dick Jauron said. "We'll get him off the field quickly whether it's in practice or in the game. So we'll watch him closely tomorrow and we'll watch him closely on Friday just like we did last week and we'll go into the game with him.
What makes an injured Miller a better option than Chris Chandler?
"He's got the most experience with our system and he runs it well," Jauron said. "He does run it well when everything's going right. As we all know things have not been going right for a little while."
However, if Chandler would have been more effective in his two starts then the answer might be different. In two defeats Chandler averaged 169.5 yards passing per game and threw two touchdowns to go with two interceptions.
For now the team is content to prove that their five-year investment in Miller was worth the money.
Four players are listed as questionable on the injury report. Fred Baxter (ankle), Bernard Robertson (ankle), Daimon Shelton (Ankle) and Chris Villarrial (Back). All four missed the padded portion of practice, but Villarrial did partake in non-contact drills.
For New England starting safety Victor Green is questionable with a leg injury, while linebacker Mike Vrabel is also questionable due to an arm aliment.
