Chicago Bears punter Brad Maynard only averaged 41.8 yards per attempt this past season, and his long was just 56 yards. He's still quite reliable and should be in no danger of losing his job, but the organization did sign Glenn Pakulak on Tuesday just to make sure Maynard doesn't get content.

Per the Chicago Bears:

LAKE FOREST, IL – The Chicago Bears signed punter Glenn Pakulak to a reserve/future contract today. Pakulak originally entered the NFL in 2003 as an undrafted free agent of the Seattle Seahawks. The University of Kentucky product has also spent time with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Atlanta Falcons, Oakland Raiders and Tennessee Titans although he has never appeared in a regular season contest. He spent the 2006 and 2007 NFL Europa seasons in Amsterdam and averaged 42.8 yards per punt (3,380 yards on 79 punts) with the Admirals.

JC's Take: Yawn. Until further notice, Brad Maynard is the punter for this team and will be going forward. He may not have the booming leg anymore, but he's still got pinpoint accuracy and was again among the league leaders dropping punts inside the 20-yard line. However, every position needs a little competition in training camp, so perhaps Pakulak will get a chance to audition for another club in Bourbonnais. He couldn't possibly be as bad as Joel Stelly.
