Big Chance

Chris Chandler will be his first chance to play for the Bears in a regular season game as he was named the starter for Sunday's match-up with the Detroit Lions.

The 15-year veteran is prepared to face a 1-4 Lions team that is ranked 30th against the pass. Chris Chandler last faced the Lions in the Falcons' Super Bowl season of 1998. He was inactive with the aftereffects of a concussion when the Falcons faced Detroit in 2000.

"You have to prepare for something like this possibly happening," Chandler said. "I've been trying to prepare all season and this week was a little easier, getting all the practice reps."

At this point the Bears plan on using Jim Miller as the backup to Chandler. However, that isn't a guarantee as Miller missed his third straight practice on Friday because pain in his right shoulder and elbow from tendinitis was still too severe.

"Jim's shoulder is still a little sore, so I'll get a look this week and I'm excited about playing again," Chandler said. "I hope it's not too big an adjustment. It's a new team, new guys, but I've been around them since last spring and we had pretty good practices all week long."

Although, R.W. McQuarters remains questionable for Sunday the Bears did upgrade TE Fred Baxter and DT Christian Peter to probable.
