A-Train to the rescue

On his way to visit David Terrell over the weekend, Anthony Thomas passed a commuter who was trapped in a burning car at the intersection of Route 41 and Route 60 in Lake Forest. Thomas' speed came in handy, as he and another motorist were able to pull the victim from the car before the situation got worse.

"You never hesitate when you see something like that," Anthony Thomas said. The only thing that I was concerned about was that the fire would reach the gas tank and that the car would then explode. You move fast in that type of situation."

If it weren't for David Terrell telling the story nobody would have known of Thomas' heroic behavior.

Head coach Dick Jauron wasn't shocked by the courageous act of his running back.

"I'm glad I gave him the time off," Jauron said jokingly. "He was in the right place at the right time. He's really a solid person. That's a great story. Anthony is a quality guy and I'm not at all surprised that he stopped to help."

Injury Update: R.W. McQuarters is still slowed by injury, but not from his sprained left knee. The cornerback pulled a hamstring and didn't practice during the bye week.

"We just had one workout today and we'll see how he is on Wednesday," Jauron said Monday.

Long-snapper Patrick Mannelly is questionable for Sunday's contest at Detroit with a strained medial collateral ligament in his knee.

With the recent string of serious injuries Jauron was relieved that Mannelly is only listed as questionable.

"That's probably as good as we could have hoped for, so we'll just have to see where it goes through the course of the practice week," Jauron said.

If Mannelly can't play the Bears might have to go after someone to fill the void.

"Any time you've got a long snapper as good as Pat, first of all, you're probably not going to replace him with anybody comparable, but there are people out there who do it, they're available," Jauron said. "We've had a number of them in (here) in the past and the preceding weeks. Jerry and Bobby do a nice job in that regard, getting people in even if we don't need them. They keep a good working knowledge of who's available."
