After the debilitating losses of safety Mike Brown and defensive tackle Dusty Dvoracek after Week 1, the Bears made a few additions to both the active roster and practice squad Tuesday afternoon.
Per the Chicago Bears:
LAKE FOREST, IL — The Chicago Bears elevated defensive tackle
Antonio Garay
to the active roster from the practice squad, signed CB
Ade Jimoh
(pronounced ODD-ee Gym-oh) to the 53-man roster, and added DT
Babatunde Oshinowo
(pronounced ba-ba-TOON-day oh-shi-NO-whoa) to the practice squad today.
Garay appeared in four contests for the Bears last season after he was a member of Chicago’s practice squad in 2005. The Boston College product entered the NFL as a sixth-round pick (195th overall) of the Cleveland Browns in the 2003 NFL Draft. He spent two seasons with Cleveland, appearing in four contests for the Browns.
Jimoh recorded 65 special teams tackles and 28 defensive stops in 63 regular season games over four seasons with the Washington Redskins. He entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2003, signing with the Redskins out of Utah State.
Oshinowo entered the NFL as a sixth-round selection (181st overall) of the Browns in the 2006 NFL Draft. The Stanford product appeared in one game for Cleveland last season, recording two tackles while spending time between their active roster and practice squad. Oshinowo is a Naperville, IL native who attended Neuqua Valley High School.
JC's Take:
Garay was expected to be in the defensive tackle rotation coming into the regular season, but he battled an injury in training camp and didn't have much of a chance after the
Darwin Walker
trade. Jimoh has been a solid special-teams performer in Washington, but it will be interesting to see if either he or rookie
Corey Graham
is activated on game day against the Chiefs. Oshinowo is a wide-bodied defensive tackle and doesn't really fit the mold Lovie Smith usually likes at that position, but this team just needs bodies right now.
