Lance Briggs addressed the media after Tuesday's practice for the first time since his traffic indicent early Monday morning, and this is what he had to say:
Sunday morning, I was in a car accident and a series of events happened after that, unfortunately. But it is as simple as that. I have three citations. It's unfortunate it happened that way.
I'm happy no one was injured in the incident. When it happened, the first thing I did, obviously, was I panicked. I didn't want there to be a big scene there.
I left the scene, and when I left I called the tow truck. I also was startled, and I called and reported my car stolen. And probably within 10 minutes, I called back and took the responsibility for what I did. It was ridiculous in the first place.
That's my situation and what happened. I lost control of my car.
To all the fans and people of Chicago who are concerned, I'm OK. My car's not OK, but I am.
All that stuff will be taken care of in due time.
I want to say sorry to my teammates because it's unfair for them to have to go through all of this be questioned for something they had nothing to do with. And also my coaches and family, because everybody's getting a lot of phone calls and are worried and concerned.
It did change me. I'm very lucky to have made it out the way I did. Very lucky. I appreciate every day. The first thing I did when I got back here was hug every one of my teammates and tell them I love them. Because you never know what's going to happen.
