Per the Chicago Bears:
Bears Waive/Injured OT Aaron Brant
The Chicago Bears waived/injured tackle Aaron Brant today. Brant was originally selected by the Bears in the seventh round (241st overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft.
Bears Sign OT Steven Vieira
The Chicago Bears signed tackle Steven Vieira today. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Vieira spent the 2007 NFL Europa season with the Berlin Thunder. The UCLA product was originally signed by the Cincinnati Bengals as an undrafted rookie free agent on April 29, 2005. He finished his rookie campaign in 2005 on the Bengals practice squad for the final eight games of the season after spending the first half of the season on the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform List.
In 2006, the Oceanside, California native was assigned to NFL Europa and saw action in all 10 games for the Hamburg Sea Devils.
Vieira concluded his collegiate career with 41 consecutive starts at both guard and left tackle for the Bruins.
JC's Take: Brant was considered a longshot at best to make the team when he was drafted back in April and needed to stay healthy if he wanted a crack at the practice squad. Once he hurt his knee in training camp, he was pretty much a goner. Although Vieira is probably unpacking his bags in Bourbonnais as we speak, don't expect him to be wearing a Bears uniform very long with the likes of John Tait, Fred Miller, John St. Clair, and even Mark LeVoir in front of him on the depth chart.
