With Tony Parrish departing during the off-season the Bears are faced with a huge void at the safety position. Chicago added safety Damon Moore during the free agency period to compete with third year man Mike Green.

Green was the last pick in the 2000 draft but earned a spot on the roster. He appeared in only seven games but left his mark on special teams. Last season, the Northwestern State-Louisiana product, appeared in all 16 games starting two of them. His coming out party was on the road against Minnesota when he recorded a career high 10 solo tackles. Green's role expanded throughout the season but he remained primarily a backup to Parrish not being forced to play every down.

Green posses adequate speed and has great size at 6 feet but has a small frame, just 176 lb. Creating the question as to if he can hold up during the 16 game season.

The Bears have become accustomed to stability at the position with Parrish starting every game during his four-year stay in Chicago.

General manager Jerry Angelo put some of those questions to rest adding former Eagles safety Damon Moore. The veteran won't be able to get onto the field until late September or early October, but he provides a quality insurance policy.

However, Bears head coach Dick Jauron is confident Green can do the job.

“He's got talent and he uses it," Jauron said.
