Marshall Placed on IR

Posted Nov 16, 2004

Lake Forest - While losing Alfonso Marshall for the season with a ruptured ACL will not get the press of losing Brian Urlacher, the kick coverage is going to feel the impact.

Marshall, a seventh round pick, didn’t make the 53-man roster out of training camp and was signed to the practice squad. However, when Mike Brown went on Injured Reserve Marshall was elevated.

In seven games, Marshall had six special teams tackles.

With the additional spot opened up by placing Marshall on IR the Bears signed linebacker Jeremy Cain from the practice squad to the to the active roster.

A member of the practice squad for the first ten weeks of the season, Cain was an undrafted rookie free agent out of Massachusetts.

The team is looking for depth at linebacker with Urlacher out four to six weeks with a calf injury. Cain has been working at middle linebacker with the defense throughout the season, so if necessary would at least be capable of calling the defense.
