Green makes solid return

The Bears dropped a 15-10 decision to the Denver Broncos Saturday, but there were several interesting notes to come out of the game.

Equilibrium: With Chicago’s 15-10 loss to Denver, the Bears dropped to 1-1 in the preseason. Chicago has now split its first two exhibition games in seven of the last nine years, including the last three.

Happy returns: The 43-yard interception return by Mike Green gave the Bears their second pilfered pass in as many preseason games. Last week against Indianapolis, cornerback Todd McMillon scored a touchdown on a 24-yard third-quarter interception that gave Chicago a 17-10 lead. Making his preseason debut after missing last weekend’s opener, Green’s pick ended a Broncos drive that had advanced to the Chicago 29-yard line.

Big Play Briggs: Starting at strong-side linebacker in place of Bryan Knight, rookie Lance Briggs had a spectacular game for Chicago while playing in all four quarters. In addition to leading the team with 10 tackles, including a sack, the third-round draft pick from Arizona blocked a 26-yard field goal attempt by Denver kicker Jason Elam in the second quarter.

"We’ve said all along that this guy has a tremendous fell for the game and has the potential to be a playmaker," said Jauron. "We saw a little bit in the first exhibition and we’ve saw more of it tonight so there are a lot of positives with Lance on the field."

Go Deep: The Bears had three plays of over 25 yards against the Broncos with Edell Shepherd leading the way with catches of 28 and 29 yards. Chicago’s Pro Bowl wideout Marty booker had a team-long 30-yard pass reception from Kordell Stewart in the first quarter.

Return battle: Brock Forsey returned two kickoffs including the to start the game. He averaged 27 yards per return.

Bobby Wade was the only player to return punts for the Bears. He showed an initial burst up field, which helped him average 12 yards per return.

Injury Report: Bears rookie defensive tackle Tron LaFavor left the game in the second quarter with a right shoulder contusion. He will be re-evaluated on today.

Eight players missed the game due to injury including Todd Johnson (jaw), Terrence Metcalf (finger), Marc Colombo (knee), John Davis (back) and Bryan Knight (knee).
