The Chicago Bears invested in Tim Jennings early this offseason following his second straight strong campaign in 2013. Yet Charles Tillman, Zack Bowman and Kelvin Hayden will all soon hit free agency, so finding depth at the cornerback position is a must for Bears GM Phil Emery.
To that end, Emery today signed former Texas Southern corner Derricus Purdy, who went undrafted in 2013. He had 34 tackles, one interception and four pass breakups for the Tigers in 2012.
Purdy joins Demontre Hurst and C.J. Wilson as young corners the club inked to reserve/future deals this offseason. All three will get a shot at earning a roster spot in training camp.
