Bears announce front-office moves

Chicago Bears GM Phil Emery has made a number of changes this week to the player personnel department.

LAKE FOREST, IL — The Chicago Bears and General Manager Phil Emery have announced the following moves in the player personnel department:

Kevin Turks was promoted to Director of Pro Personnel. Turks is in his 12th season with the Chicago Bears spending the last six as assistant director of pro personnel. He has worked as a pro scout for the Bears since 2002 after serving as an intern in Chicago’s scouting department in 2001.

Dwayne Joseph was promoted to Associate Director of Pro Personnel. Joseph has 15 years of experience in scouting and football operations, including seven during two stints with the Bears. Last season, Joseph was one of the Bears assistant directors of pro personnel after spending eight years with the Miami Dolphins serving as a pro scout, adding the title of assistant director of pro personnel for one season in 2007.

The Bears hired Ryan Kessenich (Scout/Player Personnel), Jay Muraco (East Coast Scout) and Andre Odom (Scouting Assistant). Kessenich spent the last four seasons as an area scout with the Kansas City Chiefs. Prior to his time with Kanas City, the Madison, Wisconsin native spent three seasons as Northwestern’s Coordinator of Player Development and Player Personnel. In 2005, he served as a Pro Personnel Assistant with the Washington Redskins.

Muraco has 17 years’ experience in NFL personnel departments, including the last four as an area scout with Kansas City. Prior to his time with the Chiefs, Muraco spent nine seasons (2000-08) with the New England Patriots as the team’s college scouting coordinator. During his time in New England, the Patriots won three Super Bowls (XXXVI, XXXVIII and XXXIX). Muraco also worked four years with the Eagles scouting department (1996-99) after beginning his NFL career as a volunteer in the Cleveland Browns personnel department (1992-95).

Odom joins Chicago after spending two seasons at Temple working in player development (2012) after serving as a graduate assistant (2011). In 2009, Odom began his coaching career at George Washington, assisting with the defense and special teams.

The Bears also promoted Breck Ackley to South Central Area Scout. Ackley will cover Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri and Iowa after spending last season as one of the team’s scouting assistants.

David Williams was promoted to Scout/Player Personnel after working as one of the team’s scouting assistants over the last year.

Sam Summerville will work as the Bears Southeast Area Scout, covering Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina and Tennessee, after working as the team’s East Coast Scout since 2012.
