The Chicago Bears have terminated the contract of defensive tackle Matt Toeaina.
Toeaina started 24 of 36 games played in five seasons with the Bears, recording 66 tackles, two sacks, one forced fumble and two tackles for losses.
After serving as the team's starting nose tackle in 2010 and 2011, Toeaina was passed on the depth chart by Stephen Paea last season. Toeaina played in just four games in 2012, was a healthy scratch in 10 other contests and finished the year on injured reserve with a knee injury.
Cutting him saves the Bears $1.125 in cap space for 2013, with $500,000 in dead money counting toward this year's cap.
