Bears will interview Carmichael

The Chicago Bears have scheduled an interview with Pete Carmichael Jr., the offensive coordinator for the New Orleans Saints.

According to multiple reports, the Chicago Bears today will interview Pete Carmichael Jr., the offensive coordinator for the New Orleans Saints. ProFootballTalk.com first reported the interview will take place.

Carmichael, 41, has worked in New Orleans since 2006, first as quarterbacks coach, then passing game coach and, since 2009, as offensive coordinator. Before that, he worked four years with the San Diego Chargers as an offensive assistant and receivers coach. He also had one-year stints with the Cleveland Browns and Washington Redskins.

Carmichael has 13 years experience in the NFL. Sean Payton typically calls the plays in New Orleans, yet Carmichael took over that duty with Payton suspended this year. The Saints' offense has finished No. 1 overall in four of the six seasons he's been with the team. This season, New Orleans averaged 410.9 yards per game, second in in the NFL.

Carmichael continues the trend of offensive-minded coaches in whom the Bears are showing interest. Chicago is also interviewing Mike McCoy (offensive coordinator, Denver), Mike Sullivan (OC, Tampa Bay) and Tom Clements (OC, Green Bay). Other candidates are Keith Armstrong (special teams coordinator, Atlanta) and Joe DeCamillis (ST, Dallas).
