Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, who was knocked out of Sunday’s contest with a stiff neck, also has a sprained MCL in his knee, although he is fully expected to play this weekend.

The Chicago Tribune is reporting that Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler has a sprained medial collateral ligament (MCL) in his knee. It is the same injury that knocked him out of the 2010 NFC Championship game.

This time though, the injury is nowhere as serious. Cutler was a limited participant in practice yesterday and is expected to be a full participant in today’s session. While the injury isn’t serious enough to keep him out, it could affect his mobility in the pocket as well as his ability to extend plays with his legs.

After practice yesterday, Lovie Smith said he’s not concerned with Cutler’s ability to move.

“No, not at all,” said Smith. “He practiced today without any trouble at all. You know after a hard fought game like that on the turf, you sometimes have some bumps that last a little longer. He should be fine.”

Cutler said in his weekly press conference that he’ll be on the field come Sunday.

“I feel good,” said Cutler. “I’ll be ready on Sunday.”

This is bad news to a Bears passing attack that ranks 27th in the league and will be without receiver Earl Bennett for the second straight week with a concussion. While Cutler will be on the field, he’s obviously not 100 percent, meaning one wrong hit could knock him out of the contest, bringing in Jason Campbell.

Against the Green Bay Packers, who have won seven of their last eight games, that will be recipe for disaster, especially with outside linebacker Clay Matthews, who sacked Cutler 3.5 times in the Week 2 meeting between the teams, expected to return for the first time in over a month.
