Bears wide receiver Sam Hurd was arrested last night by undercover agents after allegedly brokering a massive drug deal including cocaine and marijuana.

Chicago Bears wide receiver Sam Hurd is in jail on drug charges. Authorities have accused him of trying to set up a drug distribution network in the Chicago area. He was arrested last night after he allegedly agreed to buy a kilogram of cocaine from an undercover agent.

According to the criminal complaint, Hurd is accused of possessing 500 grams of cocaine with the intent to distribute. He is also accused of buying four kilograms of cocaine in July.

The Chicago Bears issued the following statement regarding Hurd's arrest:

“We are aware of Sam’s arrest and are continuing to gather details surrounding it. We are disappointed whenever these circumstances arise. We will deal with them appropriately once we have all the information."

The federal complaint said Hurd met with an undercover agent at a Chicago restaurant last night, where the two discussed the deal. According to the report, Hurd told the agent "his co-conspirator is in charge of doing the majority of the deals" while he focused on "higher-end deals." He allegedly said he could pay for the kilogram of cocaine after "he gets out of practice," then walked out of the restaurant with the package and was arrested.

"Whether it’s a teammate, whether it’s another football player, another basketball player, baseball, it doesn’t really matter, you hate to see this happen to anyone," said Lance Briggs. "We all make mistakes. It’s just sad to see.”

From what he knew of him as a teammate, Brian Urlacher said he would have never expected something like this.

“He’s a good teammate. He comes to work every day and works hard. Outside of here I don’t know him very well," said Urlacher. "He’s a friendly guy. He’s a good guy from what I know of him being in the building. “

He said that, even though the team is reeling from the news, it won't be a distraction this week when the team faces the Seattle Seahawks at Soldier Field on Sunday.

"Football-wise, it’s not going to be an issue," he said. "We’ll go out there and practice like we do every day and hopefully put it behind us when Sunday gets here.”
