Bears offensive coordinator Mike Martz says the rumors about him leaving after this season are false. He says he’s embarrassed and disappointed by the erroneous reports.

Last week, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that coordinator Mike Martz would be leaving Chicago after this season to possibly coach at the collegiate level. Reports were that both Arizona State and UCLA, two programs currently without a head coach, were possible landing spots.

Yet today, Martz said those rumors are false and he’s not going anywhere.

“I plan on being back here and want to be here,” Martz said after practice. “[I’m] focused on this job and what I’m doing. I’m very happy here. This is a terrific place and a terrific opportunity for me and I’m enjoying it. I really am, so those things we’ll just kind of disregard if you will.”

He said he has no idea where the rumor started but that it didn’t come from him.

“That kind of stuff is always out there, as you know, it’s got to start someplace,” he said. “I’m disappointed. I just hope … it’s just unfortunate. I’m bothered by that, really.”

He said he spoke to Lovie about it as soon as he heard the rumors.

“Yes, I did when I found about it. I’m embarrassed by it and hope that, let’s just move on. That’s not how I think and how I live my life. I’m just disappointed.”
